Smokey John's Bar-B-Que and Home Cooking first opened its doors for business in 1976 on the corner of Lemmon and Mockingbird under the name of "Big John's". Soon, this busy intersection was filled with the alluring aroma of burning hickory. The hickory smoke became the signature of the neighborhood. Owner John Reaves earned the name "Smokey John" and the name change soon followed.
During the past 33 years Smokey John's has developed a reputation for great food, great service and a commitment to giving back to the community. Smokey John's has been an active and generous corporate citizen supporting churches, Christian ministries, schools, youth programs, senior organizations as well as various local and state political candidates.
Smokey John's has always been a family-owned and operated business including John's wife Gloria and his cousin "Rent" not to mention several other family members through the years. Today the business is managed by Rent and Smokey's son Brent. John can still be found at the restaurant on occasion but Smokey spends most of his time exploring new business opportunities.
