About The Singapore Slingers

The Singapore Slingers: Retro Jazz From Period Orchestra

The Singapore Slingers aren't messing around when it comes to creating an authentic jazz club vibe, circa 1900 or so. Dubbed "the city's coolest, quirkiest retro jazz group" by the "Dallas Observer", this crack 18-piece orchestra plays a full complement of pre-swing period pieces, ranging from fox trots, marches and polkas to ragtime, tango, rhumbas. There'll be classic numbers like "Happy Days Are Here Again" and "I'm in the Mood for Love," plus lesser-known gems like "My Cutie's Due at Two-to-Two Today." When the band jumps and jives its way into the Pocket Sandwich Theatre, you'll also get an earful of a few rhythms you've probably never heard of, including The Maxixe from Brazil and the Castle Walk, originated and made famous by early era stars Vernon and Irene Castle. Multi-instrumentalist and Jazz Age enthusiast Matt Tolentino leads the vintage-clad Singapore Slingers through a truly entertaining and time-traveling experience that's perfect for wining and dining.
